Kurtiss Riggs

Sanford Sports Academy Director - Football

Kurtiss Riggs is the director of the Sanford Sports Football Academy. He has extensive experience playing and coaching at the high school, college and professional levels.

Riggs attended and played quarterback the University of Sioux Falls, where he set numerous conference and national passing records. After winning a national championship and earning National Player of the Year in 1996, he went on to play professionally in Europe and in several indoor leagues, including the Sioux Falls Storm.  

Riggs started his coaching career at Roosevelt High School in 1998 and returned to USF from 2005-2009 to coach quarterbacks. While at USF, two of his quarterbacks were named National Players of the Year, while the team compiled a 69-3 record and won three national championships. He was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in January 2013 and into the USF Athletic Hall of Fame in October 2013.

Riggs became the offensive coordinator for the Sioux Falls Storm in 2001. After moving to head coach, the team won 11 national championships from 2005-2020. During his tenure, he was named Coach of the Year five times and they went undefeated in the 2006, 2007 and 2015 seasons and had a 284-59 record.

As a coach, Riggs builds relationships with his athletes as they work towards achieving their personal goals. He teaches the fundamentals to help develop an understanding of the game.

Riggs enjoys watching his athletes develop both physically and mentally. He truly enjoys challenging athletes to reach their goals.
